I found this book tedious and very slow. I was anxious for
it to conclude. Good enough to keep me to the end, but nothing
to inspire me.
"This Is Not For You" is a poignant and thought provoking novle about one woman's struggle to come to terms with her sexuality. The solemn tone of this book is offset by humour. A realistic portrayal of a woman torn between love for and a desire to protect a beloved friend. Beautiful.
This is a compelling novel. I'm always a little shocked at how brilliant and articulate Rule is. Her character development is probably the best thing about her work. There is nothing shallow about any of her characters , and even when their decisions were tragic, I could completely relate to so many of their mistakes. I've loved all three of the novels I've read so far, but without a doubt, this is my favorite because it's just so very sad and moving and human.
Took me a lititle time to get into the second person narrative but once I did I really loved this book. Highly recommended.
Having read all of Jane Rule's book .. this is my personal favourite plus her collection of short stories. Desert of the Heart put he on the map decades ago and the film was hugely popular as well, but This Is Not For You is a great read..CG
